Patron is a dog that is wise beyond his years.
The minute we saw him arrive at the shelter in July 2009 we were shocked at the horrible physical condition this sweet boy was in.
Even though he came to us malnourished with massive hair loss because of an easily treated skin condition and an upset stomach, Patron was never unfriendly or showed any signs of discomfort. He just loves being around people!
All you have to do is glance at Patron and his body starts to wiggle, his little boxer tail starts to wag and his eyes shine. Patron is happiest when he is near you.
He loves to lean against you and get petted. Patron will also get in your lap when you aren’t paying attention, but take one look at those eyes and you won’t be able to ask him to get down. Patron is also exceptionally well behaved and knows his basic commands including, “sit”, “shake”, “down” and “stay”.
Patron also walks very well on leash. We don’t know what happened to Patron before he came to us, but at one point he was very well loved.
It seems he had some dark days as someone’s backyard dog left to fend for himself. No matter what his past held, his future is nothing but bright.
You would never know that Patron was treated poorly; he is eternally happy and grateful to anyone that crosses his path. Patron is so addicted to people that he will climb a six foot fence to be with you. If he is left alone at all in his new home, Patron will need to be indoors or in a dog run with a roof. He doesn’t like to be by himself and that’s easy to understand because of what he has been through. Patron gets along well with other dogs as long as they are mellow like him. He prefers not to be jumped all over and will get upset if a dog is being rude.
He may prefer to be the only dog in the home, but visiting canine friends would be fine with him. Patron gets along well with cats and after an initial interest, he gets over it and doesn’t mind them. Since Patron is so gentle and patient, he would be great with kids and would probably love the company of playful children.
His only issue is that when he gets super excited he will jump up and tends to nip.
When you correct him he will stop, but it’s something to keep in mind with small children.
Patron didn’t start this behavior until he had been in medical treatment for a couple of weeks and didn’t get to run around and play, so it might be a behavior that is only brought on because of so much time without stretching his legs. Patron is now healthy, as happy as ever and extremely deserving of the best home that this world could possibly hold.
